Mariska Hargitay and Dick Wolf Present Law & Order: SVU Costume To The Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History
Beloved Law & Order: Special Victims Unit star Mariska Hargitay and the show’s Creator and Executive Producer, Dick Wolf have presented a real Olivia Benson costume to the Smithsonian’s National Museum of American History, cementing SVU’s place as an iconic part of American entertainment and culture.
Worn by Mariska in S25E8 “Third Man Syndrome,” which aired on March 21st of this year, the costume includes a shirt, jeans, belt, blazer, pair of boots, earrings and a gold detective’s shield. See Captain Benson in action in the episode here.
The gifted costume perfectly coincides with the Smithsonian Museum’s recently opened exhibition “Forensic Science on Trial,” which focuses on how science has historically been used in criminal trials. The collection includes technology that is prominent on SVU, as forensic evidence is collected to seek justice for survivors.
“Mariska Hargitay has done invaluable work in destigmatizing and advocating for women and all sexual assault survivors, both on television and in real life,” said Anthea Hartig, the museum’s Elizabeth MacMillan Director. “Her character’s unwavering dedication to justice and her personal commitment to providing support for survivors are qualities we should all strive for.”
Law & Order: SVU returns to NBC on Thursday, October 3rd for the premiere of the show’s 26th season. Catch the season premiere then on NBC, and stream episodes the following day on Peacock.
