Chicago Med Episode Nominated for a 2026 Humanitas Prize

Chicago Med has been nominated for a 2026 Humanitas Prize in the Drama Teleplay category, recognizing writer Allen MacDonald for the episode “The Book of Charles.”

“The Book of Charles” follows Dr. Daniel Charles, portrayed by Oliver Platt, through a single, unraveling day — volunteering on a suicide prevention hotline in the wake of his daughter’s own suicide attempt, clashing with her over a new relationship, and discovering a colleague is quietly pushing him out of his job — all while still carrying a full patient load. It builds to Charles collapsing under the weight of it, leaving his condition and his future in question.

Since 1974, The Humanitas Prizes have been awarded to honor professional film and television writers whose work exemplifies the art of screenwriting while exploring the human condition in a nuanced, meaningful way. This year’s Humanitas Prizes will be presented in person on the evening of Wednesday, September 9th, 2026, at Avalon Hollywood in Los Angeles.

Congratulations to Allen MacDonald and the entire Chicago Med writers’ room on this well-earned honor! Stream “The Book of Charles” on Peacock
